Inspiration vs. Motivation

TRANSCRIPT

Hey, hey, it is tiny tips with Krissi Thomas coming at you today.

I wanted to talk about inspiration versus motivation.

If you've been following me or have seen my newsletters, maybe even in my profile on Instagram or LinkedIn, you'll see that I consider myself an InspoCoach. It’s a title I created for myself. It’s who I am and I believe it’s my job. I believe inspiring people is my gift to the world from God. To help people live a happy, joyful life in whatever it is that they do.

I have been in the marketing and advertising world for over 30 years, and I typically have been the inspirer for all of my clients and teams I’ve been on. I’ve always been the one to help us move forward, to get things done, and to never feel defeated. I’ve used my words to inspire with the hopes that might create motivation in those I work with.

When I think about the words inspiration and motivation, I find that they are often used interchangeably, and I personally don't believe that’s correct. They actually are 2 very different things.

When you think of someone as a motivational coach, in my opinion, it’s an incorrect title. And here's why I believe that. Motivation comes from within or is intrinsic. While you can be influenced by factors, there is no one that can motivate you to do anything. You are the only one that can motivate yourself to do something. And I even have this as a prompt in my journal where I talk about mining your motivation, meaning you've got to dig that out and find what’s driving you to get out of bed, to go to the workout, to get to work, to start the business…to do whatever it is that you're reaching for.

Where inspiration is something that is external or extrinsic. So that's where I feel I fit in. I can be an inspiration for you with my words and methods. Or, for example, you can be inspired by music, by a book, by a coach, a conference you attended.

Have you ever gotten back from a conference and were so excited and jacked up because you learned so much and were ready to put it in action? That’s Inspiration. Motivation is the decision to take action and only you can do that!

So, I just wanted to take a moment to think about these words because, again, if you've been following me, you realize that words are so important to me, and I believe that we need to use them correctly.

And if you're ever wondering what it is that I'm actually offering here, as in What am I doing? Well, I'm here to inspire you. I'm here to coach inspiration so that you believe you can move forward in this life with whatever it is that you are trying to move forward in. And as you know, I don't pick a specific niche per se, because everyone's life is different. Everyone's life is at a different phase. What I want to inspire you to do is to move forward with wherever you are in life. So that you're never stagnant. You're never revolving around your own stuff. You are always evolving.

At the end of the day, my method is all about training the mind. It’s so powerful. It's so strong. It's where we start. It is the foundation of anything you ever do in this life. Your brain is what's working for you and getting you to take the step forward. It’s your brain first and when you believe that and work on the brain, you will find moving forward a lot easier.

I'm here to inspire you not to motivate you. That's on you, but I hope that my InspoCoaching helps you to believe YOU CAN do anything. And I hope it’s the spark that drives your motivation to act.

So with that, remember y'all, YOU CAN and God Bless!
